We have completed our fifth week of classes together! We wanted to check in with you and share some key updates as we head into the weekend:
  • As you may know, because of the continued decrease in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health lifted the statewide curfew. While this is promising news, we ask that you continue to make decisions in the best interest of public health and follow our health and safety protcols.
  • Thursday, Feb. 18, and Friday, Feb. 19, are our first Wellness Days, which were designed to offer you a break and an opportunity for you to focus on your well-being. We encourage you to take some time to reset and relax.
  • BGSU continues to offer free COVID-19 testing for students, faculty and staff, with a preference to those who are physically on our campuses. This increased testing capability allows for members of our community to have access to rapid antigen and PCR tests. Students, faculty and staff may schedule an appointment today. In addition, as we did in the fall semester, we are conducting randomized surveillance and targeted testing.
  • We remain committed to keeping you updated about COVID-19 vaccine information as it will be the most effective tool to slowing the spread of this virus. Distribution continues to increase, and more information is available about vaccines at Wood County Health Department and Erie County Health Department.
  • To our students who are learning in our in-person/hybrid, remote or fully online courses this semester, we want to remind you that our faculty and staff are here for you throughout this semester. We are always open to feedback. You can share both positive experiences and concerns by emailing President Rogers at president@bgsu.edu.
  • As Provost Whitehead shared this week, after hearing valuable feedback from our community, we want to reaffirm our commitment to offering American Language Sign I, II, III and IV moving forward.
  • Anyone who knows BGSU knows SICSIC and Freddie and Frieda. These students honor such storied traditions. Tomorrow, we are unmasking SICSIC #1 and #2, and also revealing the students who were Freddie and Frieda this academic year. Both of these spirit groups are so special to the University, and we hope you join us to celebrate!
  • There is another Falcons After Dark event planned tonight starting at 6 p.m. in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. In the spirit of Valentine's Day, students can stuff their own conversation heart, take in movies and enjoy hot cocoa and cookies in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom. Also, this is a big weekend for BGSU Hockey! Local viewers, including our students, can catch the game on WBGU-TV tonight and tomorrow. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. Ay Ziggy Zoomba!
Keep at it. We are counting on every member of our community to move forward, which requires your continued adaptability and flexibility. We are in this together, and we will continue to regularly check in with you.
Regards,
