OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
February 5, 2021
Dear Parents and Families,
This afternoon, we sent the email below to check in with your student as we completed our fourth week of classes.
In addition, as we previously shared, we recently launched the Office of Parent, Family and New Student Connections. We are hosting a live introduction conversation about the new office on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m. EST, and you are invited to attend. More details will be available next week, but plan to tune in at bgsu.edu.
We continue to be so thankful for our parents and families and your support of your student.
We are in this together.

Today marks the end of our fourth week of classes. It is hard to believe we are already in February. We wanted to check in with you and share some key updates as we head into the weekend:
  • Planning for fall semester continues. Because of our committed faculty and staff, we strive to be a student-centered university. Assuming cases and hospitalizations continue to decline and the vaccine is available, we will work to meet student preferences for face-to-face experiences, double occupancy in our residence halls or otherwise. While COVID-19 has brought its challenges and setbacks, BGSU has demonstrated that we can adapt and be flexible. We are committed to working together to move forward to create an even stronger learning community, and we will continue to make the decisions in the best interest of our educational mission and public health.
  • We previously addressed large parties that occurred off campus, and we understand that it was a very small percent of our students who participated. However, we ask that you continue to consider that your actions impact the public health and well-being of our community. Sunday is Super Bowl LV, and while you may want to enjoy the game with friends, we ask that you do so safely. Health experts are predicting that these events may spark a COVID-19 outbreak. Let's prove them wrong here at BGSU, and for those football fans out there, remember to cheer for Scotty Miller '19, a former BGSU football player who is a wide receiver on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers!
  • As previously shared yesterday, the Office of Residence Life reinstated its COVID-19 Guest Policy. On-campus residential students are permitted a maximum of one guest inside their residence hall room. This is the same guest policy implemented last October. In addition, meetings and events may occur in indoor spaces with a capacity that meets physical distancing guidelines as defined by the Ohio Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • BGSU continues to offer free COVID-19 testing for students, faculty and staff, with a preference to those who are physically on our campuses. While a limited resource, this increased testing capability allows for members of our community to have access to rapid antigen and PCR tests. Students, faculty and staff may schedule an appointment today. In addition, as we did in the fall semester, we will conduct randomized surveillance and targeted testing.
  • We remain committed to keeping you updated about COVID-19 vaccine information as it will be the most effective tool to slowing the spread of this virus. Distribution continues to increase, and more information is available about vaccines at Wood County Health Department and Erie County Health Department.
  • To our students who are learning in our in-person/hybrid, remote or fully online courses this semester, we want to remind you that our faculty and staff are here for you throughout this semester. We are always open to feedback. You can share both positive experiences and concerns by emailing President Rogers at president@bgsu.edu.
  • There is another Falcons After Dark event planned tonight starting at 6 p.m. in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. Check out the spoken word poet Adan Bean, and you can create your own comic book or explore an Afrofuturism book display from the Jerome Library!
Another week down. We are moving forward, and we appreciate your commitment and resiliency. We are in this together, and we will continue to regularly check in with you
