Welcome to our first edition of "Tech Talk"! This newsletter is one of many ways we hope to keep the BGSU community informed of what is happening in the IT area of the University. We expect that some of this information will have already reached you, whether through your work directly with ITS or through the grapevine; but other items will be new. Thank you for being great users and supporters of technology on campus!
The first several months of 2017 have been extraordinary for our community. Account security endeavors, data protection and new applications have been at the forefront of what ITS is doing.
Made apparent by regular news reports, hacking is a constant factor in each of our lives. Consistently building our protective walls higher and stronger is our only way to keep these hackers out. The implementation of stronger passwords to be renewed every 90 days, the implementation of Duo Two Step Authentication in front of our portal and several other processes will help immensely. However, we must always look ahead. The near future includes placing Two Step Authentication in front of BGSU email as an additional precaution. Protecting each individual's data is our number one priority.
Along with these exciting changes, we also welcomed Joel Arakaki as Director of Client Services! He joins us from the University of Puget Sound and is already leading us toward more user-friendly processes and services.
Change is a constant in the IT area. "Tech Talk" is just one way to keep you up to speed on this change. We hope you will enjoy!
Cheers!
