Ray Marvin Leadership Award

The Center for Leadership is pleased to announce the 8th annual Ray Marvin Leadership Awards to recognize the leadership contributions of BGSU students. Award recipients will receive a monetary gift ($2,000) based on the assessment of their completed application, supporting materials, and finalist interview.

Who is Ray Marvin?

C. Raymond Marvin is a private investor in the telecommunications field. He graduated from Bowling Gren State University in Liberal Arts in 1960 and from the University of Michigan School of Law in 1963.  In 2017, he was awarded an honorary doctorate of liberal arts from Bowling Green State University. 

While a student at BGSU, Ray was a member of SICSIC, Omicron Delta Kappa, Falcon Marching Band, Forensics Team, Student Council, and Phi Delta Theta fraternity. 

  • Applications will be available Tuesday, January 15, 2018 on OrgSync.
  • Application deadline is Monday, February 26, 2018. Late applications will not be accepted.
  • Finalist interviews will be conducted in March 2018.
  • Award recipients will be announced at the Applauding Excellence ceremony on Thursday, April 26, 2018.

Award Selection Criteria: All BGSU undergraduate students are eligible to apply for this award. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a dedication to leadership and commitment to service. This award recognizes students for their personal leadership development and the positive impacts of their actions on BGSU and the surrounding communities. Special consideration will be given to those students who are enrolled in or have earned the BGSU Leadership Certificate. All applications will be reviewed and ranked by a committee. Selected candidates then complete an in-person interview with the selection committee. The Ray Marvin Leadership Awards recognizes students for leadership development and contributions from May 2017 to May 2018.

Student Eligibility: To be eligible for a Ray Marvin Leadership Award, students need to meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Enrolled as an undergraduate student at BGSU for Fall 2017 and Spring 2018.
  • Demonstrate a minimum overall GPA of 2.5.
