New Faculty Orientation

Congratulations on joining the faculty at Bowling Green State University! We are excited to have you join the Falcon Family! The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) is eager to help you launch your teaching, research, and service as a Falcon. 

All new Full-Time Faculty are required to attend the New Faculty Orientation (NFO) program as part of their onboarding with the university. This university-level program is meant for all newly hired faculty of all ranks and tracks from both Main and Firelands campus. This event complements any orientation programming offered by your unit, and you are highly encouraged to engage in both.

Bowling Green State University's New Faculty Orientation consists of a morning breakfast and orientation from 8:00am-12:00pm, a buffet lunch, and an optional presentation series in the afternoon. Continuing, optional, workshops will be available through out the week leading up to the beginning of the Fall Semester. Workshops are listed on the NFO program as well as the Center for Faculty Excellence workshop catalog

Accessibility Statement: This event will be held in Bowen-Thompson Student Union (BTSU), Room 308. Accessible parking for BTSU is located in Lot 7 off of Thurstin Avenue.There are two entrance/exits and the room has no windows. Individuals will be seated at round tables with chairs. Room can be accessed via stairwell or elevator. Food will be served buffet style for breakfast and lunch. Any new, full-time faculty are required to attend New Faculty Orientaiton. The Center for Faculty Excellence provides additional resources for those who serve as adjunct faculty with the university. 

Yes. If you are a new, full-time faculty member at either Main or Firelands Campus, you are required to attend New Faculty Orientation as stated in your Letter of Appointment. 

No, you are not required to register for New Faculty Orientation. All new faculty are required and expected to attend. Please visit the check-in table outside of Room 308 when you arrive. At this time you will recieve a name tag and copy of the program. 

All new faculty should attend New Faculty Orientation in-person. Exceptions are made for new faculty being hired as part of a hybrid program, such as the School of Physical Therapy, or for Firelands Campus. 

No. New Faculty Orientation, hosted by the CFE, is a general university orientation that provides you with information regarding benefits, faculty association, faculty senate, and additional informative workshops. Your college department or unit is expected to provide you with assistance in access to photo IDs, e-mail accounts, parking, office space, university policies/procedures, and technology. 

If you are employed as a full time faculty, please review the BGSU Benefits section in the Office of Human Resources website.  This site will give you information about plan eligibility, dependent eligibility, plans available, effective dates, and more!  A member of the Office of Human Resources will be presenting information and answering questions regarding this during Faculty Orientation.
