New Faculty Orientation Schedule
New Faculty Orientation for Fall 2023 will take place on Wednesday, August 9 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM in Bowen-Thompson Student Union (BTSU).
The abbreviated schedule is below.
Morning Sessions—BTSU 207
- 7:45-8:15—Registration
- 8:15-8:30—Director Welcome
- 8:30-9:00—Meet & Greet Breakfast
- 9:00-9:30—Get To Know Your Colleagues
- 9:30-9:50—Faculty Association, Faculty Senate, Diversity & Belonging
- 9:50-10:00—Break
- 10:00-12:00—Workshops facilitated by CFE Faculty Associates Dr. Lisa Hanasono and Professor Jennifer Stuart
- 12:00-12:10—Break
- 12:10-1:00—Lunch
Afternoon Sessions—BTSU 308 & 314
- 1:00-3:00—Afternoon Roundtable sessions with HR and campus partners

Any new, full-time faculty are required to attend New Faculty Orientaiton. The Center for Faculty Excellence provides additional resources for those who serve as adjunct faculty with the university.
Yes. If you are a new, full-time faculty member at either Main or Firelands Campus, you are required to attend New Faculty Orientation as stated in your Letter of Appointment.
Yes, you should register for New Faculty Orientation in advance. Registration information has been sent to all new, full-time faculty prior to the start of the fall semester. If you are a new faculty member and haven't yet received registration information, please contact the Center for Faculty Excellence at cfe@bgsu.edu
All new faculty should attend New Faculty Orientation in-person. Exceptions are made for new faculty being hired as part of a hybrid program, such as the School of Physical Therapy, or for Firelands Campus or for faculty who need to attend remotely due to ADA accommodations.
Not all of the sessions will be available to attend remotely. Zoom information will be shared with individuals who indicate they need to attend remotely on the registration form.
Faculty parking is available in Parking Lots F and E, across Thurstin Street from Bowen-Thompson Student Union. You must have a BGSU faculty/staff parking permit to park in these lots. Please speak with your department’s administrative assistant if you have questions about securing a faculty parking pass.
Short-term paid parking is available in Parking Lots 7D, 7C, and &B in front of Bowen-Thompson Student Union off of Thurstin Street. In order to park in these lots, you will need to purchase a parking ticket from the kiosk.

No. New Faculty Orientation, hosted by the CFE, is a general university orientation that provides you with information regarding benefits, faculty association, faculty senate, and additional informative workshops. Your college department or unit is expected to provide you with assistance in access to photo IDs, e-mail accounts, parking, office space, university policies/procedures, and technology.
If you are employed as a full time faculty member, you qualify for benefits. Please review the BGSU Benefits section in the Office of Human Resources website. This site will give you information about plan eligibility, dependent eligibility, plans available, effective dates, and more!
Human Resources will be provide a virtual Human Resources Benefits presentation via Zoom to new faculty on Tuesday, August 8, from 1:00-2:00 PM. Registration information for this presentation has been sent to all new faculty. If you are a new faculty member and haven't yet received registration information, please contact the Center for Faculty Excellence at cfe@bgsu.edu
Members from the Human Resources team will also be available to answer any of your questions during the afternoon round table sessions at New Faculty Orientation.
