Jane Rosser

Dr. V Jane Rosser is the Director of the Center for Community and Civic Engagement at Bowling Green State University. She has worked in international higher education for over 20 years in the UK and the US. A graduate of the University of Sussex in Political Science and English & American Studies, the University of Texas at Austin in Political Science, she has a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies from Bowling Green State University.

Her professional work has encompassed student affairs, women's centers, community partnerships, and more recently, service-learning and civic engagement. At BGSU she teaches regularly for the Division of Higher Education and Student Affairs and serves on the Women's Studies Steering Committee. She is an affiliated faculty member in Women's Studies and American Culture Studies. She was instrumental in bringing an AmeriCorps program to Northwest Ohio, and Wood County Corps has developed into a very successful civic outreach program for BGSU with members serving in 17 agencies in Wood County.

She is actively involved in a range of community based partnerships, local and national grant related activities and in work with Ohio and National Campus Compact. Her research and activism interests include access and diversity issues in high education, gender and LGBT issues, organizational change, qualitative research methods, service-learning and social change.

Paul Valdez

Paul Valdez is a 2004 graduate of Bowling Green State University, with a Bachelor’s of Science in Geology.  He graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington in 2007 with a Master’s of Science in Higher Education and Student Affairs and is currently writing his dissertation for the Higher Education Administration Doctoral Program here at BGSU.  Paul has worked at BGSU in a variety of roles such as Special Project Coordinator in the Honors Program, Major Event Coordinator in Campus Activities, and Assistant Director of Co-Curricular Programs in the Center for Community & Civic Engagement.  He also has a background working for Semester at Sea as a Resident Director as well as United Way of Greater Toledo as a Volunteer Coordinator.  Since 2007 Paul has been highly involved in the community and has served and lead a local nonprofit called EqualityToledo.  Paul is originally from Walsenburg, Colorado, but now calls the Old West End of Toledo home.  His research interests include identity development of students who have studied abroad and the impact of service-learning and civic engagement.

Dan Kleman

Position: Executive in Residence

Dan Kleman will be working with students and faculty through the Center for Civic and Community Engagement as Executive in Residence. He has worked as a public servant and ensures the community implements the best practices. A graduate of Bowling Green State University and Wharton Graduate School at the University of Pennsylvania in Governmental Administration.

Dan’s professional work includes president of Florida City Council and International City and County Management Association. He also has held a variety of positions in the Office of the City Manager of Dayton, Ohio. He was named City Manager of Tallahassee and served for 20 years, County Manager of Hillsborough County for 10 years, and has provided public safety management consulting to a number of cities. 

Kris Sautter

Kris has worked at Bowling Green State University since 1996. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies in 2013. Previously Kris worked as a Student Services Counselor and Administrative Assistant. She has developed relationships with multiple departments and enjoys working with the students watching them develop as they complete their degree.

Grace Gebo

Grace is a junior majoring in Multi-Platform Journalism with a minor in History. She is originally from Mishawaka, Indiana. Grace is currently the Assignment Editor of BG Falcon Media. After graduation she hopes to get a job as a news producer.

Megan Faulkner

Megan graduated from James Madison University with a B.S in Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies and is currently completing her Master’s Degree at BG in College Student Personnel. Before coming to BG, Megan served as an AmeriCorps VISTA member where she worked at the University of Georgia in the Center for Leadership and Service. Megan found her passion for service through Alternative Breaks at JMU and loves sparking that passion in others. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, exploring new places, spending time with friends, and enjoying a good cup of coffee.

Matthew Hirman

Position: Graduate Assistant

Matthew Hirman earned his BA in Geography at Prescott College in Arizona and his MA in Special Education from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. Over his teaching career, he has taught students at every level from pre-K through high school. As an advocate for students with special needs, he worked closely with families, teachers, and administrators to build supportive practices and welcoming communities for diverse learners. His experience in public education sparked his interest in civic leadership and social justice. Building on his work as a student mentor and educational innovator, he is pursuing a Master's degree in Cross Cultural and International Education and certificates in both Ethnic Studies and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. His studies have taken him to New Zealand, where he completed an internship at Massey University, and led to his working as program assistant with the Mandela-Washington Fellows, Young African Leaders Institute. His current research focuses on the impact of civic engagement experiences on international student's learning and social adjustment. Matthew also works with several community organizations and serves as the Academic Affairs Representative for the Graduate Student Senate.

Marissa Lumbrezer

Marissa has a Bachelor of Art degree in Environmental Policy and Analysis from Bowling Green State University. She is currently enrolled in the Masters of Public Administration (MPA) Program at BGSU. She is interested in all things relating to the environment. She also is interested in sustainability and education. She interned with the Toledo Area Metroparks and Kids Tech University and volunteered with different nonprofits. One day she hopes to be a sustainability coordinator in order to reach out to people and help educate them about the environment and sustainability.

Rebecca Paskiet

Rebecca is originally from Vermont and graduated with her BS in Anthropology from the University at Albany in 2013. She then served for 3 years in the Dominican Republic with Peace Corps as a Youth, Family and Community Development Promoter. This experience prompted her to become involved in volunteering for organizations which support marginalized youth once she returned to the U.S. She currently volunteers as a Spanish interpreter and tutor for Latino students in the Toledo area. She is also currently pursuing her Master's degree in Cross-Cultural and International Education and serves as the Peace Corps Coverdell Fellows Student Coordinator at BGSU. Rebecca hopes to one day work as an international educator and youth promoter abroad.

Jacqui Campbell

Jacqui is a junior majoring in Public Health. She sees her future being defined by a passion for healthcare equality and global health. This passion was ignited by the year and a half she spent volunteering abroad in rural Honduras, C.A. After graduating from BGSU she hopes to continue on to nursing school and aspires to return abroad to use her education to address global health disparities.

Hannah Finnerty

Hannah is a junior Multi-Platform Journalism major and is from Waterloo, Illinois. Aside from her work as a Civic Action Leader, she is the Editor-in-Chief of the BG News, president of the Model Arab League team and vice president of Mortar Board Honor Society. She studies Arabic and is interested in migrant and refugee communities. After graduation, she wants to work with international communities and non-profits.

Morgan Gale

Morgan is currently a junior pursuing a BFA in Graphic Design. She is the Public Relations Chair for FORCE (Feminist Organization Raising Consciousness & Empowerment) and frequently works with The Cocoon and URGE (Unite For Reproductive & Gender Equity). She is passionate about advocacy and has lobbied representatives—both locally and in Washington--about bills regarding comprehensive sex education, reproductive health, and LGBTQ rights. Her goal is to use human-centered design and design research to work on problems facing marginalized communities.

Angel Alls-Hall

Angel is a senior majoring in International Business and Management. She is originality from Detroit, Michigan. Angel has been a Civic Action Leader for three years now and has gained lots of skills she would otherwise not have learned without her position at the Center of Community and Civic Engagement. She is also the Vice President of Community Service for the International Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi. As Vice President of Community Service Angel is able to coordinate volunteer opportunities. After graduation Angel will be working as an Executive Team Leader for Target Co.

Amy Holthaus

Amy is a senior majoring in Applied Health Science. She is a member of the Sidney A. Ribeau President’s Leadership Academy and is a 2017 Orientation Leader. Amy has participated in multiple bGAB trips as a participant and site leader, and she has served on the executive board for 2 years. She plans to attend physical therapy school upon graduating from BGSU in 2018.

Maya Leachman

Maya Leachman is a senior in the Social Work program. She has been involved with BG Alternative Breaks since her first semester at BGSU and have held various roles such as Participant, Site Leader, Site Leader Coordinator, and Co-Student Coordinator. She has been on 5 trips so far. In addition to bGAB, she also volunteers at The Cocoon regularly. Maya's post-graduation plans include joining the AmeriCorps and working in the nonprofit sector.

Tiffany Smith

Tiffany is a senior majoring in Dietetics and minoring in Health Promotion at BGSU.  She is the Secretary of the Student Nutrition Association (SNA) where she creates newsletters and facilitates volunteer ideas. She is passionate about community involvement and enjoys volunteering at pantries, soup kitchens, meal packing events, and cooking classes as well as educating others about nutrition. She hopes to use her communication and leadership skills to network with other students and organizations to raise awareness of food insecurity initiatives on campus and in the community.
