Dean’s Guide to Practical Business Workshop


The Fall 2018 Dean’s Guide to Practical Business Workshop is designed to help prepare you for the working world. These six, two-hour workshops will cover what you need to know to prepare for your future business career.

APPLICATION PROCESS: You must apply and be approved to attend this workshop.
IF ACCEPTED, you will be notified to pick-up 2 accompanying books before Friday, May 4 to read this summer.

Dressing for Success – Monday, August 27, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Participants will learn about appropriate business formal, business casual, casual and formal attire.

Preparing to Interview – Monday, September 10, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Participants will learn the appropriate steps to prepare for an interview including researching the company and interviewer and tailoring your qualifications and resume to the company.

Business Dining – Monday, September 17, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Participants will attend a four course dinner, courtesy of the Dean, and will learn about business etiquette at receptions, banquets and business dinners.

Business Networking – Monday, September 24, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of business networking including networking on social media and networking at company and conference events. Students will receive copies of "How to Work a Room" and "Never Eat Alone," courtesy of the Dean.

Professional Etiquette – Monday, October 1, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
This session will educate students on professional practices in business and industry, providing knowledge and skills needed to succeed when you enter the workforce. Focus on communication, professional practice, meetings, appearance, etc.

Business Travel – Monday, October 8, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Participants will learn how to plan business travel including airline reservations, ground transportation, hotels, and restaurants. Participants will learn about points programs and rewards leading to free travel and lodging.
