Educator Connection

September 2018

Embracing Technology

SusanKosakowskiEach year the incoming freshman class has a common read which is then incorporated into the student’s introductory first-year class.  The Fall 2018 book was Irresistible: The Rise of Addictive Technology and the Business of Keeping Us Hooked. Very informative, although most likely not a surprise to each of you interacting with students today.  You may have found in your role as an educator that it is essential that you and your classroom embrace ever-changing communication technology in order to be effective.  We are doing the same here in the College of Business, especially when it comes to reaching prospective students.  In addition to our traditional written student newsletter, we are also sending short video content from current students.  We will include the link to this prospective student video each month and ask that you share it with your students whenever possible.

Hatch Curriculum

Entrepreneurship at BGSU reaches beyond our campus and into your classroom.  If you would like to have a copy of our week-long entrepreneurship curriculum click here.  This will allow you to create an account and register to access the curriculum.  Although there is no cost to you, please keep in mind that this curriculum is copy-written and owned by the College of Business at BGSU.  Please share this link with others who may want this resource to register for their own copy.

You Making a Difference for your Students

If you want your business-oriented students to attend a college with 100% graduation placement, extensive education abroad opportunities and a Dean engaged in the students’ success, then your students need to investigate the College of Business at BGSU.  We are among the top 5 percent of business schools in the world!  Want to share this great news with your students AND provide unique scholarship opportunities?  We are continuously seeking educators who want to make difference in the lives of their students.  As a Faculty Ambassador for the CoB at BGSU, you will be asked to share information about the school with your students.  In turn, those students who apply from Faculty Ambassador schools have the opportunity to be awarded scholarships up to $2,000 just because You are a faculty ambassador.  Additionally, you receive a welcome package and advance notification of/registration for events on campus.  A representative from the college will also visit only Faculty Ambassador school classes to discuss the value of a business degree!  Fall applications are due by September 30.

Classroom Tips - Student Scholarship Searches

Applying for scholarships can be time-consuming and stressful, which means students may not be taking full advantage of the what is available. Below are a few links that discuss what a scholarship is, who can earn scholarships, where to apply for scholarships, and how to apply for them. Scholarships are an effective way to help reduce the cost of education, and look great on a resume!  Additionally, please remind students that they should NEVER have to pay for scholarship information or to apply for a scholarship.

Campus Visit Opportunities

Encouraging students to investigate, analyze and consider solutions is a key to learning in our classrooms today.  That same approach could be applied to students involved in their college search and visiting campus is an excellent means of gathering and analyzing information about an institution.  Please share these upcoming CoB visit dates with your students and encourage them to engage in extensive research while determining their future academic institution.

Saturday, October 27 – Preview Day, 9am – 1pm

Friday, November 2 – College of Business Day, 9am – 2:30pm

CoB Information Sessions – Most Mondays and Friday, 1:00pm

Advantage of Early Application

Encourage your students to apply early because we anticipate reaching enrollment capacity by the end of fall.  Fall applicants will be eligible for the following benefits:

  • CoB hoodie
  • First choice of housing options
  • First choice on Business District Learning Community
  • Eligible to apply for CoB scholarships

Fall applicants will have opportunities for College of Business scholarships.  We will award approximately 30 scholarships ranging up to $5,000 to incoming freshmen for Fall 2019.  In addition, students in schools with Faculty Ambassadors are eligible for $20,000 in additional scholarships, with at least $5,000 dedicated to out of state students. Surprisingly enough, less than 15% of eligible students apply for these scholarships.  You can make a difference in the lives of your students by encouraging them to first apply to the CoB and then complete our scholarship application.
