Ms. Coughlin brings over twenty-five years of business communication experience to the classroom. She has worked and held consulting positons for such companies as Ford, Dana Corporation, IBM, and most recently the BP-Husky Refinery. She has also provided Instructional Design materials for CSX and the Green Initiative Project through Owens Community College.
Coughlin has provided business communication expertise for various projects including:
- Project planning and design of electronic permitting communication and training materials for the largest maintenance turnaround in 40 years at the BP Toledo refinery.
- Provided all communication and training for the Costa Rican offshore teams to transition a new benefit delivery service model.
- Lead Communications role in a Consumer Driven Healthcare rollout for all U.S. based manufacturing plants and distribution facilities.
- National UAW bargaining unit negotiations for Dana U.S. based manufacturing plants and Local UAW bargaining negotiations for Ford’s Lorain Assembly Plant.
The book she recommends that all business students read is “Linchpin: Are you Indispensable?” by Seth Godin. It reinforces the importance of workplace adaptability and ingenuity when solving problems, offering creative solutions, and making personal connections. Students who take Ms. Coughlin’s business communication course should expect principles from the Active Learning classroom, including in-class group assignments and evaluation to promote learning from both instructor and peers.
