Student Learning Outcomes and Goals

Program Overview:

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration is a 122 credit hour program consisting of a solid business curriculum built on the foundations of a revised general education curriculum. Admission to the business program is selective and all business majors are required to go through the signature applied core and traditional business core. Students can specialize in one or more of  14 business specializations.

Program Goals and Objectives:

Bowling Green State University strives to produce business graduates who:

  • possess sound business knowledge and skills to make an impact and advance the well-being of businesses and communities they serve and live
  • demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and effectively communicate using digital media
  • exhibit social responsibility and global citizenship through understanding of diversity of thoughts, people, culture, sustainability, and role of ethics
  • are adept in leveraging the technologies to manage and use information as an organizational asset to make data-driven decision making

We attain this by continuously striving to ensure that our students achieve the following learning goals.

Learning Goal 1

Students graduating with a BSBA degree will demonstrate competency in business knowledge and its application.

Learning Objective 1.1: Student will demonstrate understanding of fundamental knowledge in accounting, economics, finance, business statistics, operations & supply chain management, business law, organizational behavior, marketing, information technology, management science, and global strategy.

Target Level Achievement: Students will exceed expectations by scoring on average above one standard deviation of mean or meet expectations within one standard deviation of mean. Student will be below expectations if scored below one standard deviation of mean

Learning Goal 2

Students graduating with a BSBA degree will demonstrate competency in applying appropriate problem-solving and decision-making and critical thinking skills.

Learning Objectives: Students will identify a business problem, develop and critically evaluate alternative solutions, and make appropriate recommendations. Students will assess the outcomes of a course of action and make appropriate adjustments.

Target Level Achievement: We expected that 80% of student will have achieved a 3 (meeting expectations) or higher on the assessment.

Learning Goal 3

Students graduating with a BSBA degree will demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Target: 80%

Learning Objectives: Student will effectively write a business document, make effective oral presentations in both individual and team settings, and demonstrate the understanding and application of teamwork.

Learning Goal 4

Students graduating with a BSBA degree will recognize the ethical aspects of business.

Target: 70%

Learning Objectives: Student will recognize the context of the ethical situation (economic, legal or cultural). Student will define the ethical responsibilities of business organizations and describe the ramifications of unethical behavior.

Target Level Achievement: We expected that 70% of student will have achieved a 2 (meeting expectations) or higher on the assessment.
