Steve Zirkel’s impressive resume includes more than two decades of executive experience for the Fortune 500 company Owens Corning at branches located around the globe. His most recent executive position has brought him back to the U.S. as the new vice president of marketing, sales, and commercial excellence for Algeco Scotsman, a global leader of modular space, secure portable storage solutions, and remote workforce accommodation management.

  • Management Class Maps Out Supply Chain Impact With Hands-On Activity Sep 17, 2014 9:53 AM Senior lecturer, Ms. Karen Eboch, believes in interactive teaching in her management course (MGMT 3000). At the beginning of each semester, she assigns a reading by an environmentalist regarding how he got his cup of coffee. The chapter is from the book Stuff: The secret lives of everyday things by John C. Ryan and Alan Thein Durning. However, this semester she took the reading assignment a step further to improve the understanding of a supply chain through an interactive assignment.

  • Alumnus Teams up with Student to Launch Non-profit Rec Sports Organization at BGSU Sep 16, 2014 3:44 PM Athletic teams are often defined by their ability to come together to achieve a goal. The “rally cap” has become a symbol used in a variety of sports to encapsulate that powerful camaraderie. Teammates, coaches and fans join together in turning their hats inside out to spark a come-from-behind victory. A non-profit organization called RallyCap Sports, founded in New Jersey, is using this unique symbol to represent its goal of helping people with disabilities participate in sports in order to bring a community together and foster an environment of “together we rally.”

  • Supply Chain Professor Named Distinguished Scholar Sep 16, 2014 10:21 AM The BGSU supply chain program has a national reputation for excellence and one of the faculty members, Dr. Janet Hartley, continues to be recognized for her achievements. Dr. Hartley, Professor and Director of the Supply Chain Management Institute, has been honored as a 2014 Academy of Management Operations, Management Division, Distinguished Scholar. The award was announced at the 2014 Academy of Management annual meeting in Philadelphia. This award is intended to honor distinguished leaders in the field of operations management in recognition of excellence and commitment to service dedication that impacts the discipline.

The Career Accelerator, conveniently located inside the Business Building, is a unique student resource that BGSU’s College of Business provides compared to other business schools.

It is interactive teaching, experiential learning, and engagement through extracurricular activities. The business program encourages students to participate in internships and co-ops to not only provide hands-on experience that develops a student’s professional career, but it enhances the marketability of students to employers after graduation.

  • New Academic Year Kickoff Events Engage Students, Faculty, and Staff Sep 16, 2014 1:45 AM The new academic year kicked off with a series of exciting events hosted by the College of Business to welcome students, faculty, staff, and alumni to 2014-2015. We welcomed our international students with a celebration of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, serving traditional moon cakes and tea. Students spoke with Dean Ray Braun, faculty, staff, and fellow students and discussed the Chinese culture.

  • Hatch Startups Take Flight with New Applications Sought for 2015 Sep 10, 2014 10:13 AM BGSU students have a unique opportunity to launch a business while still in college through The Hatch™ program. Hatchlings, as the finalists are called, work with Alumni Mentors to develop a business presentation to pitch to Falcon Investors, similar to the television show “Shark Tank.”

  • Management Faculty Present Research at Conferences and Workshops Sep 9, 2014 2:15 PM The College of Business faculty make important contributions to their fields of study and add value to fellow scholars. At the International Academy of Management Meetings in Philadelphia, Dr. Amelia Carr, chair of the management department, presented at the Operations Management Division Junior Faculty Consortium.

  • College of Business Welcomes Class of 2018 Sep 9, 2014 2:00 PM As we begin a new academic year, we are excited to welcome another incoming freshman class of students who have chosen a college where they will experience more than a typical business curriculum. According to Susan Kosakowski, the College’s recruiting coordinator, this group of promising, new business students arrived on campus with the highest average ACT score in more than a decade. In addition, thirteen percent of the freshmen are from out-of-state and hail from as far away as California, Colorado, Virginia, Vermont, and New York, along with 2% of them coming from overseas to seek their four-year business degrees.

  • New Members Added to College of Business Boards Sep 4, 2014 10:35 AM Alumni play important roles in the College of Business through sharing the skills and insight they acquired after completing their degrees at BGSU. One of the opportunities alumni have “to give back” to their alma mater is to serve on one of the primary College Boards - the Leadership Council and the Young Alumni Board. Both of these boards have important missions to drive the College forward with initiatives that differentiate BGSU’s College of Business from other business schools.
