NCAA honors WE ARE ONE TEAM (WA1T) with prestigious Award for Diversity & Inclusion
BGSU / BGSU Athletics / WE ARE ONE TEAM (WA1T) have been chosen as the recipient(s) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Minority Opportunities Athletic Association's 2017 Award for Diversity and Inclusion. We are humbled and honored to see our passion for social justice and sport rewarded and recognized on a national level. We have many plans for the future and look forward to continue to make a change at BGSU and beyond. Thank you to all of our members, friends, partners, collaborators, and supporters who continue to help us to show that, as Falcons, WE ARE ONE TEAM!

WE ARE ONE TEAM (WA1T) holds successful event to honor legacy of Muhammad Ali
BGSU’s campus wide initiative to promote social justice through sport, WE ARE ONE TEAM (WA1T), invited members of the Bowling Green and BGSU community on November 16 to Olscamp Hall for an evening celebrating the life and legacy of Muhammad Ali. The event featured speakers from the prestigious Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, Kentucky, and was attended by over 300 members of the BGSU and Bowling Green community. 13 ABC

WA1T Launches Innovative Inclusive Leadership Certificate for Student-Athletes
We Are One Team (WA1T), the Center for Leadership, and Office of Multicultural Affairs recently launched the WA1T Team Player Program, an innovative inclusive leadership certificate specifically designed for student-athletes. For its inaugural 2017-18 cohort, the program recruited 21 athletes from 11 sports teams at BGSU. The student-athletes will attend nine training sessions related to topics on identity, diversity, and social justice throughout the school year to gain skills to be an inclusive leader on their teams and in the community.
WA1T and BGSU Athletics participated in the MAC Diversity and Inclusion Week
We Are One Team (WA1T) and BGSU Athletics participated in the MAC Diversity and Inclusion Week during the week of September 18-22, 2017. The purpose of this week was to spread diversity and inclusion messages across campus with the help of MAC student-athletes. Each day of the week consisted of a specific theme and BGSU student-athletes were involved in multiple initiatives throughout the week. Student-athletes participated in a photo campaign and attended the annual Multicultural Reception with guest speaker Jay Mulucha, a Nelson Mandela Fellow and LBGBTQ and human rights activists from Uganda.
Paralympic gold medalist, Jessica Long, addresses a crowd of 500 people at the Stroh
The WE ARE ONE TEAM (WA1T): Our Voices fall 2017 educational series featured speaker was Jessica Long, a 13-time Paralympic gold medalist and the second-most decorated Paralympic athlete in U.S. history. Members of BGSU and the Bowling Green community were invited on Nov. 8 and Nov. 9 to listen to Long share her story about being adopted from Russia at a young age to excelling in swimming. She shared her message that, “…the only disability in life is a negative attitude.” Long addressed a crowd of 500 people at the Stroh Center and captured the attention of over 200 local fourth graders at the Wood County District Public Library the following day.
