Graduate Studies in Spanish: Study Abroad in Mexico

As an alternative to the graduate program in Spain, the Department of Romance and Classical Studies sponsors a program in Mexico. Students admitted into the program must be self-reliant. They may be aided in registration by the Universidad Vercruzana (UV), by a member of the BGSU graduate faculty, but will be left entirely on their own for the remainder of the year. All courses are taught in Spanish by Mexican university faculty. Xalapa is the capital of the state of Veracruz with a population of approximately 500,000. The UV has almost 58,000 students, 43,000 of whom are pursuing undergraduate degrees (based on 2002-03 enrollments).

The program in Mexico offers these special features for all graduate students:

• The opportunity to attend a very wide variety of classes with Mexican students at the Universidad Veracruzana.
• Exposure to the cultural and artistic climate of the Xalapa area through lectures, theatrical and musical performances, attendance at museums, etc.
• Housing in Xalapa is entirely the students’ responsibility. A variety of lodging is available at all levels of comfort.
