SMC At BGSU Homecoming

Bowling Green State University’s (BGSU) annual Homecoming event on Oct. 14, 2017 was a score! With the Falcon’s facing the Ohio Bobcats in football, BGSU’s community hosted various tents, events, and family-fun activities for campus students, families and BGSU alumni.
The School of Media and Communications (SMC) hosted a tent in the Falcon Tailgate Park for the 15th year in a row. Combined as one, Falcon Media joined with the BG News, WGBU-FM student radio and students within the school for the SMC tent. These organizations and SMC attracted phenomenal attention from hundreds of students, alumni and families.
Each year the SMC tent has grown outstandingly with more attention from students, both current and alumni. The tent stands for the purpose to talk to students, reunite with alumni and to represent BG News, Falcon Media and Kuhlin Center in a positive and proud manner.
Some alumni graciously volunteered their time to visit the SMC tent and add some excitement to the event. Don Lee, 1987 BGSU alumni and current cartoonist for a local newspaper, shared his phenomenal talent and illustrated caricatures outside of the SMC tent. Lee also was an enormous contributor and member of the BG News while he attended BGSU.
There was also an appearance from BGSU’s alumnus and namesake for the Kuhlin Center, Mike Kuhlin. Kuhlin traveled from Chicago to visit BGSU for Homecoming weekend to visit his old roots and visit with alumni and current students.
Robert Bortel, director of student media, was one of several representatives from the school to attend the SMC tent. With several alumni visiting the tent, Bortel explained his experience seeing familiar faces.
“For the 15th year, the SMC tent had a great turn out and luckily such beautiful weather. There were lots of friendly faces that stopped by,” he said. “It was nice to see past students and even classmates I've had in the past.”
Additionally, the SMC tent featured Paul Obringer’s award-winning chili, additional food and beverages for visitors.
BGSU’s Homecoming always welcomes back familiar faces with open arms. Watch for Homecoming 2018 as the SMC tent will continue to grow and positively represent the School of Media and Communication.
