One of my critical duties as a teacher of writing is to make sure my students know that their voice matters. That they are worth listening to. That their opinions are valid.

It is not talent alone that makes a successful writer, but also the discipline to put pen to paper even on days when it is the hardest thing to do, and I strive for this to be one of the key lessons my students pick up from my teaching.

I love cats and other soft things. You will frequently find me petting people's fluffy beanies and fur coats (with their permission).
