As a teacher, I am a large proponent of learning by doing. Discussion and activities are key components of my GSW classroom. Students engage in the class material through class discussions about concepts and readings, small group activities where students work with writing concepts such as analysis, and in-class writing assignments on paper or in discussion posts. These activities and discussions are designed so the students can approach issues as writers to practice new concepts. Additionally, I want student to recognize writing is a process and there is no such thing as “good” writing. There is only the writing you wrote at the time it was written. Beyond the classroom, then, I encourage students to reach out to me with any questions and/or concerns they may have. I am not an unreachable, unfeeling grading machine – I am a person and am more than willing to help students through any stage of their writing process.
