As a General Studies Writing instructor, I value the critical and creative spheres of writing – how words can be an avenue for intellectual development and personal growth. In my own life, writing has given me an agency to communicate my ideas and interpretations and defend them well; writing gives us a voice in spaces where we may have none.

Additionally, I believe writing is crucial to emotional literacy. The art of communication with words—whether that process is cohesive or messy—is profitable for psychological health and self-understanding, giving us a fluid space to explore our beliefs, identities, and emotions. It is my aim to communicate these tenets of writing to my students, showing them that writing is not simply strict and formulaic, but a powerful tool for critical thinking and virtuous change.
