Staceyann Chin is a spoken word poet, performing artist, and LGBT rights political activist. Some of her work has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Pittsburgh Daily. She was also featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, where she shared her struggles growing up as a lesbian in Jamaica.

Laurenn McCubbin is a large-scale immersive installation artist currently operating out of Columbus, Ohio. She graduated with an MFA in Documentary and Experimental Art from Duke University. She is currently an Associate Professor of Foundations at Columbus College of Art and Design. McCubbin's work concerns the fluidity and flexibility of gender representation, as well as how outsider communities are both celebrated and denigrated for moving outside of social norms.

The Ray Browne Conference on Cultural and Critical Studies is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Ray Broadus Browne (1922-2009), a visionary and pioneer in the academic study of popular culture.  


The fourth annual Ray Browne Conference on Cultural and Critical Studies is co-sponsored by Popular Culture Scholars Association and Culture Club: Cultural Studies Scholars’ Association within the School of Cultural and Critical Studies at Bowling Green State University.
