A graduate completing an Intervention Specialist education major is eligible for an Intervention Specialist license in two areas: Mild to Moderate Intervention Specialist K-12 and Moderate to Intensive Intervention Specialist K-12.
BGSU teacher education programs are highly competitive and require additional admission and graduation criteria. These requirements include, evidence of proficiency on a nationally normed achievement assessment (ACT, SAT, PRAXIS core), professional disposition reviews, an overall grade point average of 3.0, and passing scores for all required Ohio Assessments for Educators examinations in each content area required by the State of Ohio. Candidates in this program will also be required to obtain annual BCI/FBI checks in order to participate in required field experiences.
Upon completion of the baccalaureate degree, candidates for the Intervention Specialist license are expected to:
- Assess and evaluate students with exceptionalities;
- Design instructional content for delivery to students with exceptionalities;
- Plan and manage the behavior, social interactions, and learning environment of students with exceptionalities;
- Collaborate in the delivery of services to students with exceptionalities;
- Meet professional expectations for ethical practice in the delivery of services to students with exceptionalities, given the philosophical, historical, and legal foundations of special education.
