As a family member of an incoming BGSU student, your role in supporting him/her is vital to your student’s successful transition to BGSU and the collegiate experience. We recognize that to support your student most effectively you also need to learn about the ins and outs of resources and services.
As you explore the information found online here, please remember that this resource is for family members as much as it is for students. While the information available here is helpful, in no way does it replace the value of a phone call, a personal email message, or an in-person visit with faculty and staff. Your on-campus visit for Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) will serve as an additional foundation to build your BGSU network, as well as the network for your student.
Enrollment Steps and New Student Checklist
The New Student Checklist is full of important “to-do” items for students. Following up and assisting your student on a few of the items will benefit your student. Below are a few frequently asked questions to get you started:
- What is the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)?
- How do I access my students’ financial account information?
- Which health and immunization records should be reported to BGSU?
- Can I read more about the Installment Payment Plan for tuition and fees?
As you learn more about the respective offices and departments on campus, there may be times when you are simply not sure who to call or where to address your question. If you find yourself in this situation, please call our Parent & Family Helpline at 800-815-1300 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance. Staff will respond and get you pointed in the right direction.
