Tourism, Leisure and Event Planning
With billions of dollars making their way into the tourism industry, tourism and event planning students at BGSU have incredible career opportunities awaiting them.
As one of the largest industries in the world, tourism provides diverse employment possibilities consisting of private (for-profit) organizations, public entities and nonprofit organizations. Additionally, event planning is one of the fastest growing professions with a range of full-time opportunities. In fact, U.S. News & World Report ranked “Meeting, Convention and Event Planner” 53rd of the 2014 Best 100 jobs, and the ninth Best Business Job. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects meeting, convention and event planner employment growth of 33.2 percent between 2012 and 2022, adding 31,300 more jobs.
Fieldwork, which combines both theory and application, is required to prepare you for this growing field. Additionally, international opportunities are available via our exchange agreement with Southern Cross University in Australia, the BGSU Study Abroad Program, and regular field trip excursions to Europe, Africa and Canada.
