Your pre-fall checklist is now available! Review the recommendations below to help make the most of your fall semester. Make sure you Start Strong and complete any pre-fall requirements before you get to campus. 

Follow these Falcon tips to flourish this semester

1. Enhance your BGSU experience. Even if you're already involved on campus, expand your comfort zone

With 300+ student organizations, BGSU has a group for every interest, from social justice to gaming clubs. BGSU Student Engagement is a great resource for discovering these organizations and other ways to make connections.

2. Falcons thrive with a support network. 

The BGSU Community of Care commitment prioritizes well-being and belonging. We’re here to support your well-being and mental health. The Counseling Center offers free counseling services to students, and the Falcon Health Center provides medical and mental health services. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need it. 

3. BGSU values the safety and well-being of all students. 

The See It. Hear It. Report It. form is a tool to report concerning or suspicious behavior to campus authorities. It's essential to look out for each other and report anything that feels off.

4. Whether you live on campus or off, BGSU has resources to support you. 

Residential Students

Move-in is almost here! Check out the move-in guide to prepare for life in the residence halls. 

Commuter Students

The University Transitions team is a great resource to help you feel connected to campus. Visit the Commuter Hub for details about parking for your required new student welcome events. 

4. Whether you live on campus or off, BGSU has resources to support you. 

Residential Students

Remember to lean on your resident advisor (RA) and hall staff for support throughout the year. housing resources page can be helpful in case you need a refresher about maintenance requests or to ensure you remember important dates. Your RAs and hall staff can do a lot of things, but they can't read minds.

Commuter Students

The University Transitions team helps you feel connected to campus. Find ways to get involved, special study spaces and unique events on the Transitions webpage. 

5. As you gear up for the upcoming academic year, make time to live your best FALCON life

Break out your orange and brown on Falcon Fridays. Cheer along with SICSIC at Homecoming and home games. Give Freddie and Frieda a high five if you see them. And please, now is not the time to test tradition – stay to the right of the seal. Learn more do’s and don’ts about BGSU traditions.

Start Strong Tips 

BGSU Text Messages

All active students, faculty and staff are automatically enrolled to receive critical messages about campus life. All messages will have an "opt-out" option. Be careful! Opting-out immediately removes ALL messages from BGSU. The following list includes a few reasons why you might receive a text. 

  • AlertBG
  • Financial aid reminders
  • Bill pay reminders
  • Class registration reminders

Selective Service

All male students who are Ohio residents between the ages of 18 and 26 must register with the Selective Service, per state law, and then email the Selective Service Number to registrar@bgsu.edu.

The Office of Registration and Records will send reminders if we do not have a Selective Service ID on file. Learn more about BGSU Selective Service Compliance.

Canvas Use

One of the most used sites for a BGSU student. This tool is necessary to stay engaged in your classes. Your instructor will provide details for how they will use Canvas in their class.

  • Review your syllabus
  • Engage in class discussions
  • Submit assignments

Class room locations

Check your class schedule a few days before the semester begins. Sometimes room locations may change, be prepared by reviewing your schedule to learn if your class location has changed.

Navigate is a desktop and mobile app tool that allows you to 

  • Schedule appointments with your advisor
  • Access your class schedule
  • View your Student Success Team
