| Real Life Name: Todd Childers SL Avatar Name: Petrarch Oatsmill Title: Associate Professor of Graphic Design My avatar is Petrarch Oatsmill, named after the Renaissance Humanist scholar and proponent of Humanist Hand calligraphy, Petrarch. Humanist Hand calligraphy is a form of Renaissance calligraphy which is meant to express the spirit of classical Roman art and literature. I am using the dimensionality of Second Life as a creative venue to explore the structure of Humanist Hand calligraphy via a dimensional font in a dimensional typographic page/space. Pedagogically, Second Life dimensionality is used to reveal the Humanist Hand's relationship to Oldstyle serif typography as it mimics the changes of weight seen in the strokes of a calligrapher's pen. |
