History and traditions are part of the culture of every university, but be aware when you enter Bowling Green State University, you become a Falcon in the land of orange and brown. It’s up to you to decide what kind of Falcon you want to be.

Put on your orange and brown gear and cheer on your favorite Falcon athletic team. There are 18 NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic teams to choose from on campus.

Intercollegiate athletics is an important part of the residential college experience, and Bowling Green State University’s rich sports tradition is a major source of school spirit and pride for the campus community. You can join the Falcon Fanatics to cheer on the home team on game day at “The Doyt,” the epic hockey games against some of the country’s top collegiate teams and at the state-of-the-art Stroh Center for riveting volleyball matches and the edge-of-your-seat competition of men’s and women’s basketball.

BGSU Athletics is built upon a long-standing tradition of championship-caliber teams with a strong record of academic success. The University is a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), and is one of only 15 programs in the country that sponsors Division I-A football while also competing in men’s and women’s basketball and men’s ice hockey at the Division I level.

In the past seven years, the Falcon football team has made three bowl games and the men’s basketball team won a MAC Championship. Our women’s basketball team won six MAC titles, advancing to the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen in 2007 and making it to the third round of WNIT play in 2013. The Falcon baseball team won three consecutive MAC East Division titles, and the volleyball team won a MAC Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round in 2012.

Or, be a participant rather than a spectator when you sign up for any of the 20 intramural sports ranging from the traditional basketball and softball to the offbeat Ultimate Frisbee and innertube water polo, or our nationally ranked Quidditch team. You can try your hand at whitewater rafting, rappelling and rock climbing when you participate in Outdoor Programs.

Living a healthy lifestyle is the key to performing at your best. That’s why at BGSU our students live healthy, balanced lives through access to world-class facilities. BGSU has four popular facilities: the 185,000-square-foot newly renovated student recreation center with climbing wall, pool, basketball/volleyball courts, indoor track, weight room, lounge and more; Perry Field House with two wings features 100x60 yard field covered with synthetic turf perfect for indoor flag football or soccer and a 200-meter 14 lane running track encircling four basketball, volleyball or tennis courts; Forrest Creason golf course considered one of the best manicured courses in Northwest Ohio; and the ice arena which offers access to public skating, curling and broomball.

National visibility

All of this has helped bring BGSU national recognition and the opportunity to host national tournaments, including the 2012 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship First and Second Rounds. More recently, Bowling Green hosted the 2013 NCAA Division I Midwest Regional Ice Hockey Championship at the Huntington Center in Toledo.

Forward Falcons (BGSU fight song)

Forward Falcons, Forward Falcons,
Fight for victory.
Show our spirit, make them fear it,
Fight for dear Bee Gee.

And win for Bowling Green!
