ARTICLE I. NAME

Section I.      

The name of this organization is the World Student Association.The official abbreviation is W.S.A.

Section II.   

The name of the organization (World Student Association) will not be used to express an opinion that is not shared by the majority of its constituents and has been formally recorded as such by the Executive Board of the World Student Association.

ARTICLE II.  AFFILATIONS
 

The World Student Association is not affiliated with any other local, state or national organizations.

ARTICLE III. PURPOSE/AIMS/FUNCTIONS

Section I. 

 To promote intercultural understanding and friendship among students from all over the world through cultural, educational, and social activities.

Section II.      

To extend the opportunity of further developing universal brotherhood and sisterhood among all students.

Section III.      

To assist other on-campus organizations in their endeavors to promote international understanding.

Section IV.      

To represent and assist International students in conjunction with the Center for International Programs.

ARTICLE IV.  MEMBERSHIP

Section I.     

Any person, regardless of national origin, faith, color, gender or social class, can be a constituent of this organization.

Section II.    

A member of WSA is permitted to vote on WSA decisions and at WSA’s annual elections if he or she has a history working with the organization and sufficient background information on the issue being decided. Members of WSA will be nominated by current voting members in order to become an official voting member of the organization. The WSA secretary is responsible for maintaining a list of current voting members.


ARTICLE V.    EXECUTIVES

Section I.      

The World Student Association Board is made up of the following executive board members: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations Chair, Publications Chair, Programs Chair, Graduate Student Senate (GSS) Representative, Webmaster, and Facilities Chair. They are elected during the General Board Elections held during the spring semester,and at other times as needed.

Section II.      

These elected board members must be full-time Bowling Green State University Students.

Section III.      

Individuals filling the role of president and vice president must have previous experience working with WSA and must be readily available when needed. The presidential and vice presidential candidates should submit their anticipated date of graduation before running for the election. They must be prepared to fulfill their duties for the next academic year and will be required to meet with a WSA adviser prior to being elected.

Section IV. 

Roles of the Executives:
1. Attend WSA meetings and events regularly.
2. Be aware of the goals of WSA and ensure that these goals are achieved.
3. Coordinate properly with the advisor and the executives through meeting attendance and efficient communication.
4. Properly transition out of the position by meeting with the student who will be filling the role next. This may mean attending a transitioning workshop or meeting individually with the newly elected officer.

ARTICLE VI.   BUDGET

Knowledge of the W.S.A. budget should be available to all W.S.A. members. The treasurer is responsible for maintaining an accurate record of all budget transactions and will report the status of the budget at W.S.A. meetings once each month. The treasurer is also responsible for attending budget consultations with the Office of Campus Involvement each semester and preparing the annual budget proposal in conjunction with the W.S.A. adviser.

ARTICLE VII.   ADVISORS

The Advisors of the World Student Association are graduate students under the Center for International Programs and the Associate Director of the Center for International Programs.

ARTICLE VIII.   MEETINGS/QUORUM

Section I.  

 For any official meeting, a quorum (at least 50%) of Executive Board members must be present.

Section II.  

For a decision to be officially carried at any meeting, it should be supported by at least fifty (50) percent of the Board members.

Section III.  

As a general guideline, the decision of at least 50% of the agenda should be taken at the sitting.

ARTICLE IX.  ALL AMENDMENTS/RATIFICATIONS

All amendments to the Constitution will be discussed one meeting prior to the ratification. To be passed an amendment needs approval of at least two-thirds (2/3) of all Executive Board members.
