The Specifics

Dimensions:
The squares we make for the blankets measure 7 inches by 9 inches. Please make sure any squares you turn in fit these dimensions. We cannot use squares that do not fit these dimensions, because they will not lie correctly in a blanket.
No Holes:
Do not use stitches that are too lace-like or hole-y. The point of these blankets is to keep someone warm, and those squares will not do the job.
Careful Color Selection
Please be careful when choosing colors for the squares. It is inevitable that you will run out of yarn in the middle of a square. In this case, please pick one of the following choices:
1. Attach the same color yarn to finish the square.
2. If you cannot find the exact yarn, find a very similar shade. Please begin this new color at the beginning of a row (even if it means you have to unravel some stitches)
3. Use a contrasting color to create balanced stripes on each side of the square.
4. Unravel the square and begin again with a striped pattern in mind that fits the amount of yarn left.
5. Unravel the square and turn in the remainder of the yarn at the next meeting. We have lots of odd balls of yarn we can match into pleasing stripe patterns for squares.
And Remember...
Treat these squares as you would a handmade gift for friends and family. If you are not proud to give it as a gift, don’t turn the square in. We want these blankets to be beautiful works of knitting and crocheting.
