Welcome to
Catholic Newman Club!
Our Mission and Inspiration
Catholic Newman Club is an organization that meets once a month and has the mission of modeling the seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching. We strive to spread awareness about the importance of social justice in our world, and the value placed on your participation in the process. Social Justice is a term used to describe giving what is due to each human person and all God’s creation. Often times acts of social justice are described as service towards one’s neighbor. While this is true Catholic Social Teaching reaches beyond basic acts of service, and calls individuals to, at times, take action far oustide one's comfort zone. This might include defending human rights on a public stage or helping to preserve and care for our enviroment.
Monthly Outreach
Catholic Newman Club meets on the first Saturday of every month at St. Tom’s University Parish, across from Mac Donald Hall. The meeting includes a mass, a service project, and reflection. Over the course of the year, participants will explore the seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching through acts of outreach and the following reflection. Some past monthly outreach projects include visiting a migrant workers camp, singing carols at a retirement community, and sharing time with seniors at the little sisters of the poor center in Oregon, Ohio. Other larger projects include two retreats, one each semester, and the annual Catholic Newman Club Winter Formal that raises money for the St. Thomas More St. Vincent's Society. More information about the retreats and winter formal can be found by clicking here or on the tab at the left of your screen.
