Following
in the history of sports car racing at BGSU with the Electric Falcon
in
the Formula lightning series from 1994-2005. The BGSU Motorsports
Club
wanted to continue racing while promoting the research and education
of
alternative fuel options. On April 22, 2006, the Inaugural Grand Prix of
BGSU was held on BGSU's campus.
The racing karts use E85 fuel (85% ethanol and 15% gasoline), and a specified
tire and engine. While motorsports can be an expensive pastime,
the concept
of this race and design of the rules is to keep costs down and provide
a safe and fun race with wheel to wheel action. The inaugural race delivered
as promised, with a very competitive race from qualifying to the checkered
flag.
The 2007 Grand Prix of BGSU will be held on April 14. You are invited
to
become involved. There are still options to field a kart in the face, and
for many of the teams it is a fundraiser for their organization. The GP
is in
need of many volunteers, and has opportunities to gain experience
in many areas
of study. Or, simply com out to watch. If you wish to
be involved
please contact us for more information.
