| BG UKS Adult Program Mission Statement
"The BGSU Adult class strives to uphold the vision of the United Karate System. By focusing on the proper execution of all the basic techniques and then applying them to self-defense situations, the instructors hope to give their students the best possible education. Through weapons training we endeavor to extend that education, allowing students to use all the advantages possible. Throughout training, the instructors remain open-minded, asking for student input. This free exchange of ideas results in loyalty, respect and friendship between students and instructors. This exchange extends to others in the martial arts community, allowing the style to expand its horizons and engage in friendly competition, thus teaching us all the value of sportsmanship." -- Jenny Gerken Domanski, March 11, 1999 Just the facts The adult class of the BG United Karate System is run by Jim Hasenfratz. Beginner classes are held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Anyone age 14 and over is welcome to join this class. New 5-week Beginner Karate classes start five times a year -- Two sessions in both the fall and spring semesters and one session during the summer semester. Class registration is done through BGSU Continuing & Extended Education by calling them at 419-372-8181, by stopping by their office at 40 College Park, BGSU, or by completing the registration form available during the first week of class. The BG UKS holds free self-defense nights twice each fall and spring semesters and once during the summer semester. These 2 hour workshops are held on the first night of each new Beginner Karate session and designed to not only teach practical self-defense awareness and techniques, but to also impart a greater appreciation of the martial arts in general. These workshops are open to all adults from both the campus and community. Self-defense workshops are also available by prior arrangement for most campus and community organizations. For information on how to arrange a self-defense workshop for your organization, please contact Jim Hasenfratz @ 419-345-3246. |
