Meeting Minutes from October 24th, 2005

-Winter Break Trip: There was a sign-up on Monday for the winter break trip to Mobile, Alabama, being offered not through Habitat but through the Office for Campus Involvement (?). This is replacing Collegiate Challenge for winter break.

  • They are looking for approximately 50 volunteers and asked if we were interested
  • This trip allows for members to really get involved with hurricane relief. Work might include picking up/removing debris, laying tarp, etc.
  • It’s a great opportunity so please sign up if you are available during this time. The dates look to be the 19th of December through Christmas Eve (the 24th)

-Monday Meeting: Remember that this Monday night’s meeting (the 24th) is a social gathering so feel free to bring friends, roomies, whomever to come join in the festivities!

-Re-Store: Please take a look at the Re-Store sign-up sheet. Sign-ups began on the 17th for those wishing to help out.

  • 4-5 people are needed at a time
  • 10-3 on Saturdays
  • In Toledo, approximately a 20 minute drive from Bowling Green
  • Tasks may include pricing and moving materials and possibly customer service
  • If interested and can take others, please note this on the sign-up sheet along with how many people your vehicle can safely accommodate

-Trick-or-Treat for Change:

  • Will meet at 5:30 in the regular meeting room on the 31st
  • Bowling Green trick-or-treat time is from 6-8 pm
  • Please dress up in costume
  • Bring a metal can (soup to coffee can size) to collect change in. Habitat stickers will be applied to the cans.
  • Still taking ideas on where the after-party should be located. Again, please email any suggestions to Amanda.

-Awareness Week:

  • Coincidentally also the same week as National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
  • We are looking to get a guest speaker to speak on Habitat
  • Still planning on painting the rock by Kreischer as well as setting up a table in the Union and having a 24 hour build-a-thon in the Union Oval, where we are going to take shifts in building a tool shed that will then be hauled off to a local Habitat site
  • The week before Awareness Week we will be having a bake sale on the steps of the Education Building. There is a sign-up sheet for volunteers to donate baked goods and/or sell them with a commitment of a minimum fifty minutes

Reminders:
-Please continue to email any event ideas to Amanda at hoovama@bgnet.bgsu.edu. These ideas may revolve around fun things to do at the Halloween party after Trick-or-Treat for change on the 31st. Suggestions for Awareness Week are also welcome. Basically anything you have thoughts on, we want your say!
-Meetings will be every Monday at 9:15. Meetings will be followed up by a trip to a local hang-out, last Monday having been the Marble Slab ice cream shop downtown.
