Amended Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 at 10:00 p.m..

Article I – F.I.G.U.R.E.

 

The name of the organization shall be Finding Intelligent Greatness Uniquely Residing in Everyone, hereafter referred to as F.I.G.U.R.E.

 

Article II – Affiliation

 

F.I.G.U.R.E. shall be affiliated with Bowling Green State University’s office of Disability Services and the College of Education and Human Development.

 

Article III – Purpose

 

The purpose of F.I.G.U.R.E. shall be seen through the incorporation of the Bowling Green State University student body along with staff members helping others to find intelligent greatness uniquely residing in everyone regardless of a hidden or visible disability. F.I.G.U.R.E.’s main goals are to instruct, inform, and inspire.

 

Article IV – Membership

 

Section 1: Regular Membership. The membership of F.I.G.U.R.E. shall consist of regularly enrolled full-time undergraduate and graduate students of Bowling Green State University and be interested in disabilities and creating awareness of disabilities throughout the university.

 

Section 2: Non-discrimination clause. Consistent with all applicable federal and state laws and University policies, F.I.G.U.R.E. and its subordinate bodies and officers shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, religion, veteran’s status, sex, national origin, sexual orientation or disability in its selection of members.

 

Section 3: Dues. As of this time, F.I.G.U.R.E. will collect 10 dollar dues at the beginning of the fall semester.

 

Article V – Officers

 

Section 1: Officers of F.I.G.U.R.E. shall be as follows: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. F.I.G.U.R.E. is to have all four positions full in order to run the organization and conduct business both effectively and efficiently.

 

Section 2: Election of officers. Officers can choose to run or be nominated at the last meeting of the second semester, at which time members will be voting at officer elections. Those running for position can then state why he or she is best suited for their corresponding role. Afterwards, by a show of hands, voting will take place. F.I.G.U.R.E.’s Executive Board will be elected between March 20th and April 20th for the following academic year.

 

Section 3: Officers shall take office on April 30th and shall serve for a period of one full academic year.

 

Section 4: Officers shall not be on academic or University probation at the time of their elections and throughout their term of office. GPA requirement shall be 2.0.

 

Section 5: Officers failing to fulfill the given responsibilities and duties may be removed by the active organization.

 

Section 6: The removal of an officer requires a majority vote of two-thirds organization members following notification of the officer in question. Such notification shall be provided in writing no less than two weeks prior to the vote. A week prior have a question/answer session following parliamentary procedure. Then voting will take place no earlier than one week after the question/answer meeting.

 

Article VI – Advisor

 

Section 1: Method of selecting advisor. Advisors for F.I.G.U.R.E. shall be selected from among the faculty, staff, or administration. A graduate student or assistant is not permitted to serve as the advisor of a student organization, however they can serve as a co-advisor along with a faculty, staff or administration member. With disability awareness as our main focus, the office of Disability Services’ faculty and staff shall be top choice for an advisor.

 

Section 2: The advisor must take an active role in assisting F.I.G.U.R.E. to achieve our mission and purpose.

 

Section 3: The advisor shall act as the liaison between the Office of Campus Involvement and F.I.G.U.R.E. The advisor will also be involved in various events and meetings, in accordance to what is agreed upon between advisor and Executive Board within the first month of the first semester of the school year.

 

Article VII – Meetings

 

Section 1: A regularly schedule general meeting shall be held at least once a month. Officers may call additional meetings as the need arises.

 

Section 2: A quorum (defined as the number of members or percentage of total membership needed to present at a meeting in order to conduct official F.I.G.U.R.E. business.) shall consist of two-thirds active members present at any regular or special meeting to conduct official business.

 

Section 3: A quorum shall be present in order for any official business to be conducted. Official business shall include election of officers, setting of dues, and any other major decisions.

Article VIII – Standing Committees

 

Section 1: Standing committees will consist of the following:

1) Historian

2) Publicity

3) Silent Dinners

4) Student Panels

5) Volunteerism

6) Fundraising

7) Birthday/Facebook

 

Section 2: Committees will have chairperson in charge that will communicate group’s progress with the President and Vice President.

 

Section 3: Chairpersons will be elected and/or nominated at the last meeting of the second semester, at which time members will be voting at officer elections.

 

Article IX – Quorum

 

Section 1: Quorum is defined as 50% of the organization’s active membership plus one.

 

Section 2: Quorum is necessary for any voting that occurs within the organization.

 

Article X – Method of amending constitution

Section 1: All amendments to this constitution require notice of one week prior to being discussed and voted upon.

 

Section 2: The constitution may be amended by a vote of two-thirds majority membership at any regular or special meeting.
