FCGS HISTORY AND STATEMENT OF FAITH
History FACULTY ADVISOR WHAT WE BELIEVE FCGS SEEKS
FCGS was formed in 1990 as a nondenominational outreach by committed faculty and graduate students from different Christian communions and varied departments and programs.

This has included Physics and Astronomy, Philosophy, English, Legal Studies, Computer Science, and Telecommunication and as FCGS has served as a campus forum for fellowship, Bible study, discipleship, and discussion of a broad range of issues in science, history, and theology. Originally an outreach of Bowling Green Covenant Church, FCGS is now also nationally affiliated with University Christian Grads

We believe, with the apostle Paul, that "all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ" (Col. 2:3), and that therefore "all truth is God's truth."

Since its inception, FCGS has served more than 350 students as they have pursued and completed M.A., M.F.A., and Ph.D degress while deepening their faith and walk with God.

Dr. Bruce L. Edwards has been faculty advisor to FCGS since its inception. He has been a teacher and administrator at BGSU since 1981. He is currently serving as Associate Dean for Distance Learning & International Programs, but is also a Professor of English.

He has his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, and frequently lectures and has widely published on the life and work of C. S. Lewis and other Christian writers. His most recent publication is the four volume reference set: C. S. Lewis: Life, Works, Legacy from Praeger Press, 2007.

We believe in:

  • The unique divine inspiration, and entire trustworthiness and authority of the Bible.

  • The deity of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • The necessity and efficacy of the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ for the redemption of the world, and the historic fact of His bodily resurrection.

  • The presence and the power of the Holy Spirit in the work of regeneration.

  • The expectation of the personal return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • To provide a forum for fellowship, discussion, prayer, and reflection among fellow Christian graduate students and faculty in light of a Biblical worldview.

To engage and impact the BGSU campus for the gospel of Christ by sponsoring public presentations and discussions of the relevance of the Christian faith to the study of the arts and humanities, the social and physical sciences, education, business, and technology.

To create social opportunities for students and faculty of like minds and interests to meet and to initiate fellowship and friendship during an extended study on the BGSU campus.

To supply encouragement and training especially for those faculty and students who wish to explore the meaning and significance of their faith within the contours of their respective disciplines and to find effective expression for their faith in the academic arenas of teaching, research, and publication.
