African Peoples Association

African People’s Association is a student organization in Bowling Green State University that is composed of individuals who share an African origin, ancestry, and/or the common interest in learning about the different African cultures and traditions. The foundation of all of the organization’s activities is embodied in the objectives: “to encourage self-education among those who share an interest in African people”, and “to create and foster unity amongst our members in order that this bond will be the foundation of political unity in Africa.”

Since its birth, APA has undergone different transformations in its striving towards the fulfillment of its objectives. Many people have come and gone that have added the tones of their personal imprint to the maturing mosaic of APA. For years, many have sacrificed much time and energy in order that the growth of this organization would be ensured. Growth, however, like everything in nature occurs from within outwards, just like a seed. The same way a seed can grow to its greatest perfection and beauty only when planted in the climate of its origin, is the same way we as individuals can never truly grow and bring to full blossom our talents and abilities without planting ourselves in the true knowledge of our origin. And it is this self-enlightenment about ones identity that qualifies us to educate others in fulfillment of our objective that states: “to encourage self-education among those who share an interest in African people.”

Today, in furtherance of the objective of self-enlightenment, a new chapter in the history of African People’s Association now opens. Today, with the gathering of a new group of individuals who harbor the intention to be of service, the light of success now gleams brighter than ever. Today, with the increased involvement of APA members in the programs instituted, the foundation is being laid for the unity among people that will move this organization closer to the fulfillment of its objectives. It is in light of this opportunity to achieve greatness that we work endlessly and move courageously forward!
