Cosplay Preformance Rules
This is if you are competing with a performance. If you are entering with a costume ONLY, please click here to visit the comprehensive rules for costumes.
There will be TWO levels at the competition, Rookie and General. The competition will be split in half based on previous, determined by the number of competitions contestants have participated in previously, or the number of competitive costumes made. Because placements may change, you should check in often. If you are at or below the average, you will be in the Rookie class; you are in the General class if you are above the average, OR if you elect to move from Rookie to General. If you have been in 1 or 2 competitions, chances are, you will be rookie. If you have WON a cosplay competition (regardless on how many competitions you have been in), you will automatically be placed in General. Questions, concerns, and constructive criticism are always welcome, as this is only the second year of the competition, and ANO is still learning.
Costume Design Category rules:
Most of the costumes should be original, or have significant alterations. If we find that a participant is misrepresenting their costume (costume made by someone other than the contestant), we will be forced to disqualify that individual. Presenting patterns and pictures to the judges is strongly encouraged.
Performance rules:
All participants must submit their script for theirs skit before the show for review. The earlier you send a script in for review, the easier it will be to fix any concerns. For this reason, you can e-mail your script to Kyle Smith at pak2rat@yahoo.com SUBJECT: COSPLAY SCRIPT. Scripts may also be submitted at the registration table the day of Animarathon up to 2 hours before the event. Cosplayers will be permitted to register for the competition at the registration table up till that time. Performances are highly encouraged to be original. Judges will score on character portrayal, overall quality of performance, originality, and costume design for those entering the design contest.
There are some general guidelines that should be followed. Common sense is paramount on this. If you think that something is offensive, it probably is. If you are unsure, you can always ask me. This is a family event, so swearing should be kept at a minimum and sexual situations and language should be avoided. Repeated violations may result in point loss or disqualification. Be respectful of fellow participants, judges, and audience and avoid singling people out. There are exceptions to this rule. If you have the consent of an audience member (the judges will check this) it will be allowed. Another exception is me the announcer.
There will also be 2 bonus rounds. Due to popular demand, Scenes From a Poison Mushroom shall return this year. SFAPM is an improved game in which participants act out their characters’ response to scenarios. These scenarios will be provided by the audience, judges, staff, and participants. The other bonus round will be announced in the future. The most important thing to keep in mind is that your score cannot be hurt in the bonus rounds.
Prizes will be awarded to:
Best Overall
Best Costume
Most Creative Performance
Otaku’s Choice (of all contestants in Performance)
