General Rules
All attendees in costume, whether or not they are participating in the Cosplay Competition, must abide by the following rules:
- No weapon props that look realistic, particularly guns and metallic swords and knives, are allowed. Real weapons are absolutely prohibited; per the 2005-2006 BGSU Student Handbook, p. 14, "The University prohibits weapons of any kind on campus." In addition, on p. 47, it is stated that "[e]xplosives, firearms (actual, or novelties/toys reasonably resembling actual firearms), fireworks, firecrackers and similar devices, and weapons of any kind create a potential safety hazard and, therefore, the use or posession of these items is prohibited in University residences. Weapons include, but are not limited to, knives with blades over three inches, guns, pellet guns, paint guns, tazers, bows and arrows, machetes, Ninja stars, nunchucks, grenades and swords." (The Student Handbook may be viewed here.)
- Shoes or other similar footwear and a shirt or other garment that covers the chest be worn at all times. Bare chests and bare feet are not allowed.
- Animarathon and University staff members have final say on what is allowed.
Greetings
Greetings
Greetings. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Kyle Smith, the head of the ANO Animarathon VI Cosplay Competition. I have been in ANO for three years and this will be my second year as the head of Cosplay. For those that attended Animarathon V last year, I was the host of the event. With me, I have brought back last year’s judge panel, but this year we will have a surprise special guest panelist.
My goal for the competition is very simple: fun. This core goal is built off my belief that most of use don’t dress up for money, or peer pressure, but because it is something we find enjoyable. To fit with this goal, I try to run a leisurely event. Although I want this to be free flowing, I do have to place some very simple ground rules:
- ALL cosplayers (even those not competing) MUST abide by the BGSU regulations and cosplay general rules displayed on this site.
- Show respect for your fellow cosplayers.
- NO outsourced costumes are allowed in the costume design portion of the competition. Outsourced costumes are defined as being purchased, commissioned, or made by someone other than the participant.
- Please watch your language. Animarathon is a FAMILY event, and we wish to keep it that way.
- By entering this event, all participants agree to respect the decisions made by the judges. Any disagreements may be handled after the event in a calm manner. Any attacks on the staff or volunteers donating their time to this event will be immediate disqualified and risk possible dismissal from future events.
- Any questions, problems, or concerns involving the Cosplay Competition should be brought to me, and I will try to be as helpful as I can. If you have any questions before Animarathon, I can be reached at pak2rat@yahoo.com with the Subject: ANO Cosplay. During Animarathon, I will be at the Cosplay Registration 2 hours before the competition and will also be wandering about the rest of the day. You can also contact the ANO President, Stephanie Edwards.
As long as these rules are observed, the Cosplay Competition should be fun for everyone involved ranging from the contestants, the audience, and staff. We are working hard to improve the competition, including a sound system, cleaner polling processes, and improved communication. I’m looking forward to seeing you at Animarathon VI!
