A
Message From The Current President
Greetings,
It is my pleasure to serve as your madam
president for the 2006-2007 academic year. Over the years,
the African American
Graduate Student Association has served as a strong support
system for graduate students of color at Bowling Green State
University (BGSU) through its core values of professionalism,
scholarship, and unity. It is my desire and goal to keep
that tradition alive by providing meaningful connections
for all who are affiliated with the association. Hopefully,
your experience at BGSU will be enhanced by the association
as you participate in the various activities and programs
planned for this year.
The African American Graduate Student Association’s
theme for this year is “Improving the Professional
and Personal Lives of Graduate Students of Color.” We
chose this theme as an important assessment, critique, and
dialogue about our experiences as graduate students. This
year, we want to foster an atmosphere in which a real dialogue
can begin about our experiences as graduate students and
provide realistic solutions to the problems and obstacles
we face. It is my sincere hope that we focus on how we can
mentally, spiritually, and physically grow in hopes of becoming
better individuals. By growing and reaching new levels of
personal awareness, we enhance the lives of others and enrich
our graduate education experience. I challenge all of our
members to share knowledge and information with other graduate
students about your successes as a graduate student. You
never know how much a little insight can help someone else.
Once again, I am delighted to serve as your leader of our
fine organization. On behalf of the Executive Board, welcome
to a new academic year at BGSU. It is my sincere hope that
when you leave BGSU, you will have gained much and positively
influenced others.
Sincerely,
Renata Harden
Madam President, African American Graduate Student Association
