A new educational landscape University System of Ohio In August 2007, Gov. Ted Strickland issued an executive order creating the new University System of Ohio, designed to promote collaboration and coordinate programs at Ohio's public universities, branch campuses, technical and
community colleges, medical college, adult literacy and work-force centers. A 10-year master plan for higher education was
also created, whose goals are to strengthen Ohio's economy by increasing access, affordability, efficiency and quality at
public higher education institutions. Targets have been set and 20 measures for achieving these goals identified. Under the new formula for funding higher education, institutions’ state support will
depend on their progress toward the plan’s goals. Now, BGSU must begin to define its future within the context of all these
factors.

“We’re in a leadership transition and people want to know where we’re going; and we need to inform the presidential leadership
process – finding the best possible match with our vision, mission and values is key to a successful search. This (Charting
Our Future Week) is our opportunity to influence the process.
