Katelyn Bonko -- Senior at BGSU researching with Dr. Erin McMullin. Katelyn worked this summer studying genetic biodiversity in a species of African Cichlid through the Toledo Zoo. In effort to maintain a balanced ecosystem in Lake Victoria, it has been discovered that this fish is now struggling in the wild. Through the zoo, efforts are being made to ensure the generations they have are still genetically rich enough within the nine available generations. Adam Gabriel -- Junior at BGSU researching with Dr. Eileen Underwood to test the waters in scientific research. Originally planning on a pharmacy major, Adam took an interest in herpetology as a child with fond childhood memories of frogs and reptile encounters. Volunteering in the herpetology lab throughout the previous academic year and brought him back into contact with these creatures where he met his mentor Dr. Underwood. Through her research she is learning how to study behavior and sensory systems that she will be able to use in the future in Neuroscience.
