SETGO employs a cascading structure involving multiple layers of peer- and faculty partnerships. The mentor pool comprises faculty sponsors at the partner institutions, students in prior SETGO Scholar cohorts, junior/senior math and science majors, graduate students and post-doctoral researchers at BGSU, as well as a variety of educators and business leaders from the local community.

Katelyn Bonko

-- Senior at BGSU researching with Dr. Erin McMullin. Katelyn worked this summer studying genetic biodiversity in a species of African Cichlid through the Toledo Zoo. In effort to maintain a balanced ecosystem in Lake Victoria, it has been discovered that this fish is now struggling in the wild. Through the zoo, efforts are being made to ensure the generations they have are still genetically rich enough within the nine available generations.

Originally planning on a pharmacy major, Adam took an interest in herpetology as a child with fond childhood memories of frogs and reptile encounters.
