Attached is a proposal outlining the type of coral research a student may pursue in the Marine Lab at BGSU. However, a couple major improvements over the attached proposal include the recent addition of 6 experimental coral aquariums and the possibility of conducting cell counts of zooxanthalle.I would like for my student to help with the design of the project, but here is the basic idea. We propagate the soft coral sinularia sp. into 6 groups and place them into the 6 aquaria. One serves as a control and we stress the others. The independent variable might include temperature, copper, sun tan lotion, feeding schedule, etc. We will collect quantifiable data and analyze the statistics (parametric or nonparametric), but the student will be present when I do it.
