As faculty member of the Department of Biological Sciences one of my goals is to expose both undergraduate and graduates students to hands-on research activities in the fields of evolutionary and conservation genetics. My research program focuses on the effects of genetic, ecological and environmental factors on the probability of extinction of natural populations. We use a variety of molecular genetic techniques to address questions on the origin, evolution and preservation of biodiversity. Undergraduate students in my lab participate in a variety of independent research projects and in collaboration with Ph.D. students. I have mentored several undergraduate students and have been an active member of the BGSU AIMS program, an undergraduate program targeting underrepresented minorities and women toward science and technology careers. jbouzat@bgsu.edu
