Title of Event: Computational Aesthetics '08 Art Exhibition Reception
Computational Aesthetics '08 Art Exhibition Reception will take place at the Bowling Green State University Virtual campus
in Second Life and at the Hotel Riviera in Lisbon, Portugal.
Computational Aesthetics bridges the analytic and synthetic and integrates aspects of computer science, philosophy, psychology,
and the fine & performing arts. In particular it focuses on the mathematical and information theoretic aspects of both connectionist
and symbol processing methods by humans and computers.
Computational Aesthetics seeks to facilitate both the analysis and the augmentation of creative behavior. It investigates
the creation of tools that can enhance the expressive power of the fine and applied arts and furthers our understanding of
aesthetic evaluation, perception, and meaning. Invited talks will be given by individuals involved in the technical, artistic,
and theoretical aspects of this young field to help participants better understand what aesthetics is, what computer technology
is currently capable of delivering, and to appreciate what is involved in the creative process.

Title of Event: Searching: an installation by Jeff Lovett
Description: Nearly 10,000 satellites now orbit Earth, passing over our heads unseen. A few hundred of those, however, are large and close
enough to be seen as flashes of reflected sunlight.
These few brilliant specks of light can be seen during daylight hours if one only knows when and where to look.
The possibility of catching a first-hand glimpse of a satellite in action is the impetus for the compulsive actions that created
these photographs and installation.
The over 2000 original images in the exhibition are displayed in 3 distinct areas, a processing station, a projected high-speed
slide-show and an analysis station. The sound-scape in the installation is comprised of recordings from the electronic data
transmissions of satellites
Visitors to the installation are encouraged to sift through the prints and take one away with them.

Title of Event: GRAPHITE Digital Art Exhibit
Description: The GRAPHITE 2007 Digital Art Gallery showcases works of art that exemplify the creative realization of innovative ideas
using computer graphics and interactive techniques. The exhibition was held in Pert, Australia Dec 1-4 and is also hosted
on the Bowling Green State University Second Life Island.
The convergence of visual art with computer science, mathematics, the natural sciences and other disciplines has resulted
in new forms of expression. Artists and researchers are combining ideas, elements, and techniques in creative ways to produce
artworks that stimulate and challenge our intellectual and emotional sensibilities. It is these cross-disciplinary artistic
endeavors that explore new territories and help to define the exciting future of artistic expression using digital technology.
The GRAPHITE 2007 Art Gallery showcases artworks that provoke thought, explore ideas in innovative ways, address contemporary
issues, interactively engage the viewer in the unfolding of meaning, and captivate the viewer's intellectual and creative
self.
