Outdoor Program

The mission of the Bowling Green State University Outdoor Program is to:

  • Encourage student development through experiential education in outdoor settings.
  • Promote environmental stewardship and conservation.
  • Create opportunities for leadership advancement, team development and personal growth.
  • Challenge students to expand beyond their personal boundaries and self-imposed limitations to broaden their understanding of themselves and the natural world.

The Outdoor Program received the David J. Webb Program Excellence Award, a national award, from AORE (Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education).

Wilderness First Aid Certification

Date: May 3 and 4, 2014

Location: Perry Field House
This Wilderness First Responder Course will instruct advanced wilderness medicine techniques needed in a setting where medical care may be hours or days away. Topics covered include basic life support, spine stabilization, wound cleaning and care, splinting, and emergency evacuation planning. This course is ideal for anyone working in field study, outdoor recreation, or in a rural setting where medical assistance may take a long time to arrive. 

This course involves online study prior to the practical portion. This allows the participants five full days of hands-on learning. All who successfully complete the course receive a three year certification through the Wilderness Medical Training Center.  Register Online
