In the last few years, more than 50 women from Northwest Ohio have been murdered as a result of domestic violence. (These murders include homicide cases where the proven or alleged perpetrator was a husband, boyfriend, intimate partner, or acquaintance.)
We are asking for your help in creating a public exhibit of life-sized silhouettes, each bearing the name of one of those who have been lost to domestic violence. This Silent Witness exhibit will give BGSU the opportunity to take part in a national campaign to end violence against women. More information about the Silent Witness National Initiative can be found at www.silentwitness.net.
Will you sponsor -- as an individual or group -- one silhouette? You might co-sponsor with friends to honor the memory of one woman. The cost for each figure is $75. The names of the first ten contributors will appear on the back of the figures, as sponsors. We also need donations of time and energy. You may call the Silent Witness Project Coordinator, Brittany Baker, at (419) 372-7253 to volunteer to help with planning, mailers, transporting, telephoning, etc.
We want this exhibit to make visible the reality of domestic and relationship violence. We hope it will bring about more action to protect women and stop the violence.
Thank you for your support. |
