Overview
Welcome to the Northwest Ohio Pollution Prevention Team web
site. This site is dedicated to educating the general public about
pollution prevention (P2). We have complied a variety of information
that can be utilized by everyone to help reduce the amount of
pollution that is generated in northwest Ohio. We encourage you to
review this information and practice P2 every day.
Why P2
Benefits of P2 to the environment include cleaner air for
breathing and cleaner water for drinking, fishing, and swimming. In
addition, natural resources are limited and therefore, we need to
conserve these resources as much as possible. The fewer raw materials
we use, the greater the supply for future generations.
Not only is P2 beneficial to the environment, but a cost
savings can be realized too. For example, by using less water, your
sewer bill will be reduced. By using less energy, your electric and
gas bill will be reduced. By buying in bulk, your grocery bill may be
reduced.
What is P2?
The best way to minimize pollution to the environment is by
reducing the amount of pollution we generate. There are three main
aspects of pollution prevention --REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE. A
combination of all three will decrease the amount of pollution
generated in northwest Ohio and subsequently, these activities will
help to clean our environment. Let's look at each of these
briefly.
REDUCE

Simply put, USE LESS. This can be
accomplished through simple things like buying products that
use less packaging, using less water, and using less
energy.

REUSE
|
As the old adage goes, "One man's junk is
another man's treasure." Instead of throwing things away to
be sent to a landfill, try to find someone who may get more
use out of the produce. Garage sales are an excellent way to
reuse products. Also, find different ways to reuse items.
For example, baby food jars can be reused to store
miscellaneous nuts, bolts, and washers. Be creative.

RECYCLE
|
Many villages and cities have adopted a
curbside recycling program for plastics, aluminum cans, and
newspapers. However, there are many other things that are
recyclable. Magazines, clothing, coat hangers, antifreeze,

P2 Is an attitude!
We want everyone to know that P2 is not just recycling, P2 is
an attitude. It's a way of life. Not only that, but by reducing
pollution, you may also realize substantial cost savings. No one
wants to pay for things that they don't use. This is why P2 is so
important to the environment. Many people do not realize how much
unnecessary pollution is generated on a daily basis.
With the information complied here, we hope to make people
aware of the amount of pollution they generate every day. We also
want to encourage everyone to REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE to help save
our environment. This site gives tips on P2 that you can do at the
home, in the car, at the office and in the yard.
