Northwest Ohio Pollution Prevention Team

P2 and You

 The Northwest Ohio Pollution Prevention Team is comprised of members from the following agencies and educational institutions as well as other organizations dedicated to reducing pollution in Northwest Ohio.

 

Ohio EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has been active for 25 years. Their mission is to protect human health and the environment through responsible regulation supported by sound science, quality service, and comprehensive environmental education.

 

Bowling Green State University has a University-wide program for recycling aluminum cans, paper, plastic, glass, and cardboard. BGSU also assists University and non-University facilities and institutions in the redistribution of useable but unwanted laboratory chemicals and the reclamation of elemental mercury.

 

City of Toledo, Division of Environmental Services works closely with local industry and citizens of the metropolitan Toledo area to provide enforcement of environmental regulations. A proactive approach is taken with a strong emphasis on pollution prevention. Educational outreach is provided to encourage members of the community to be active stewards of the environment.

 

Owens Community College Department of Environmental Management is dedicated to the advancement of industry through the sound application of pollution prevention technology. Our Associate of Applied Science degree has been recognized nationally in the P2 arena. The program culminates in a capstone pollution prevention audit where the students are required to actually reduce or eliminate a waste stream at an industrial site.

The University of Toledo Recycling Department collects mixed office paper,cardboard, aluminum cans, glass and plastic beverage containers and newspaper from all buildings on Campus. The Campus Community is also encouraged to minimize waste at the source by using environmentally-friendly materials, improving processes and techniques to reduce the amount of waste generated and by sharing and reusing resources.

The Maumee RAP (Remedial Action Plan) works with federal, state, and local governments as well as area businesses and citizens to restore the health and beauty of the Maumee River Ecosystem. The Maumee RAP is one of 42 areas of concern by the International Joint Commission.


Pollution Prevention Made Easy - The best way to think of pollution prevention (P2) is to remember the 3 Rs of P2: REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE, in that order. With this in mind, it can be very simple to think of ways that you can reduce the amount of pollution you generate on a daily basis. This section includes tips on ways to REDUCE and REUSE.
