The Constitution for the Ohio Association of Student Personnel Administrators



Article 1 Name

The name of this organization shall be the Ohio Association of Student Personnel Administrators.


Article II Purposes
Section 1. One, the purpose of this Association shall be to discuss and study the most effective methods of aiding students in their intellectual, social, moral, and personal development.

Section 2. Two, the purpose of this Association shall be to promote cooperation and communications among Ohio student affairs officers and other persons concerned with higher education issues impacting students.


Article III Membership
Membership in the Ohio Association of Student Personnel Administrators shall consist of individuals employed in Ohio colleges and universities eligible for membership in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).



Article IV Officers
Section 1. The officers of the Association shall be a President, a President-elect, a Secretary-Treasurer, and one representative from the higher education/college student personnel faculty, public institutions (four and two year), private institutions, and graduate students’ constituencies. These individuals will comprise the OASPA Advisory Board.

Section 2. The officers shall be elected at the annual meeting of the Association. The President-elect shall be elected for a three-year term to serve as President-elect, President, and past President. The other Advisory Board members shall be elected on staggered two-year terms with the opportunity for re-election to an additional term.

Section 3. The past President shall serve as the chair of the nominations committee. The President shall be empowered to appoint chairpersons to projects consistent with the purposes of the organization.

Section 4. The Advisory board shall meet at least twice annually to conduct Association business.



Article V Meetings

Section 1. The Association will hold an annual meeting. The responsibility for the program and arrangements shall rest with the Advisory Board.

Section 2. Gerald Saddlemire Award. This award will be presented at the annual meeting of the Association. The President is responsible for coordinating the award process and selection. Criteria on which the award is based are: significant experience in the field of higher education and student affairs, consistent demonstration of professional involvement at the state, regional, and/or national levels, contributions to the profession through the development and mentoring of new professionals, and a commitment to the personal and educational success of students on his or her campus.



Article VI Amendments

This constitution may be amended at the annual meeting by a two-thirds affirmative vote of the membership in attendance at the business meeting.
