David Ihrke's research interests involve using an applied approach to address a variety of topics. A few examples of using
applied research to address concerns include offering reasons for businesses to move into an area in the hopes of improving
the economic situation, offering suggestions to improve the morale of students in schools, and gauging interest in proposed
expenditures. Utilizing an applied approach links the researcher with the community they are studying, something that rarely
happens in traditional research. Because of this attachment with community members and leaders, applied demographers are constantly
reminded of the fact that research can have a lasting impact and people are more than just numbers in a dataset.
