Joseph Jacoby jjacoby@bgnet.bgsu.edu (419)372-8147 Curriculum vita
Professor of Sociology
Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania, 1976
The arena of Professor Jacoby's research is the interface of law and mental illness, in particular, how to reduce the harm
mentally ill offenders both cause and suffer. He currently collaborates with a small group of scholars at several other universities
to establish a research center devoted specifically to designing and organizing research on the mentally ill offenders living
in the community. Another major, long-term interest has addressed the broader issue of the structure of the public's attitude
toward punishment, and the basis of that attitude. His current work includes a study that assesses the public's knowledge
about executions.
