BGSU Recycling

Funding & Financial Support

The BGSU recycling program is funded in several ways:

  • The University credits the Recycling Program the landfill disposal rate for every ton of recyclable material diverted from the landfill
    • The revenue generated from avoiding landfill fees pays for the student employees who collect the material
  • Arrangements with the University allow for $3.00 of every student's general annual fee to aid the recycling program
    • Student fee pays for the full time recycling coordinator, and general office expenses.
  • Revenue is also generated from selling the recyclables to the BG Jaycees’ Recycling Center
    • This revenue is used to pay employee salaries and other general expenses
  • BGSU has received grants from numerous organizations
    • Funding from the State of Ohio and the Wood County Solid Waste District benefit the recycling Program
    • Grants cover all capital equipment expenses, from the five collection vehicles to all the barrels and bins on campus
